With nearly 20 years in the contract furniture industry, Megan Smith is a seasoned design operations leader with a passion for helping teams work smarter, not harder. From her early days in design and project management to her leadership roles at HNI Workplace Furnishings, Megan has consistently championed innovation, efficiency, and people-first leadership.

She has led cross-functional teams, managed multimillion-dollar budgets, and introduced award-winning technologies—earning back-to-back CET Innovative Extension Awards. Her approach blends strategic vision with hands-on expertise, making her a trusted advisor to dealers, manufacturers, and tech startups alike.

In 2024, Megan launched Future Form Consulting to bring this experience to a broader audience, helping organizations navigate digital transformation, improve design workflows, and stay competitive in a fast-changing market.

Senior Manager, Dealer Design Technology & Experiences

HNI Workplace Furnishings 
 

  • As a senior manager at HNI Workplace Furnishings, I led a team of 6 direct reports and 25 second-level reports whose mission was to support and elevate the dealer experience of every Allsteel, HON and Gunlocke dealer. Our mission focused on technology integration and support, showroom experiences, sales enablement and training.

  • I led a team of designers who focus on strategic planning, development, testing and support of HNI’s design software platform (CET Designer). We won CET’s Innovative Extension award for two years, focusing on driving user value and quality products for 4,000+ users.

  • I led the Designer Training team, focusing on delivering high-quality and customized content in the areas of technical specification, product application, workplace theory and CET software training to HNI’s community of dealer designers.

  • I led the Dealer Technology team, which provided BA/QA support and project management for all dealer technology platforms, including a Salesforce-based platform and order management tools.

  • I led the Digital Support team, which provides customer service for HNI dealers for all digital platforms, including HNI brand’s websites, Salesforce and order management. The team consistently met the 80% SLA compliance target on a 13-week rolling average. I led a new company-wide initiative focused on research and exploration of AI projects, making recommendations to executive leaders to solve meaningful business problems. I led the Showroom Experience teams, with responsibilities for eight showroom locations across the US. My teams are focused on design, construction and operations and strategic real estate decisions. I managed a $6.5M budget for all showrooms.

Senior Product Portfolio Manager, Partnerships

Allsteel​

  • I represented Allsteel’s four partnership brands by creating a strategic annual plan focused on growth and process improvements.

  • I worked with field sales team to drive growth and brand recognition and provided monthly sales reporting to leadership.

  • I acted as the liaison between HNI and Design Public Group. I successfully re-negotiated contracts with each partner brand to sell exclusively on the Design Public Group platform.

Senior Manager, Dealer Integration 

Allsteel

  • I was the voice of the dealer designer at the manufacturer, driving change and improvement for technology, tools, skills and processes.

  • I led a team of five designers to improve HNI’s CET Designer software tool and provide designer education and increased capabilities.

  • I created and launched CET support, including technology and process to support email, phone and live chat.
